Beatrice Wood visited Japan in 1962 and 1972. She was quick to praise the elegance of a woman and to support unconventional behaviour. Here in this group, we see a woman taking pleasure in the sun, a woman dressed to be in public with her hair in typical nihongami, and three women in the nude being absolutely silly.
On her first trip to Japan, Beatrice "remarked to a lawyer, who was counsel for the American forces, the war seemed completely forgotten. "Overnight," he answered, then added drily: "Sex is a great democratizer. Our boys married 55,000 Japanese girls, not to mention all those who don't bother with legalities. You don't hate when you make love." - I Shock Myself, p.187
